The
establishment of Buddha Mind Monastery began with a group of
international students in Oklahoma seeking earnestly for the
Buddha Dharma. During one of the intercollegiate
Dharma talk sessions, this group of students had an
opportunity to attend a Zen lecture by Dharma Master Jian-Hu,
presently the abbot of Chung Tai Zen Center of Sunnyvale.
They found instantaneous interest in Zen and started to
thirst for the Buddha Dharma delineated from the Zen school
perspective of Buddhism, which centers on the study of the
mind itself.
Buddha Mind Monastery was established in March 2004.
It is located in a quiet and beautiful suburban area of
Oklahoma City. The monastery occupies a land area of
about 1 acre. The buildings were originally parts of
an old Christian church. Thus, the architectural
design of the monastery uniquely features American style on
the exterior and the Chinese Buddhist monastery style on the
interior. It is a perfect environment for meditation
and Dharma learning.
